Monument’s Stewart Verdery spoke with Bloomberg Government about rising tensions over immigration enforcement techniques in Minnesota.
Stewart Verdery, a Homeland Security official during the George W. Bush administration, said the immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota was not helpful to the president’s messaging, but otherwise, there has been a more disciplined approach to his second term.
“The ICE situation certainly got out of control and I think the images on the ground in Minnesota were pretty disconcerting,” Verdery said. “Even for a president that likes this kind of hard-edged immigration agenda, it was over the top.”
