John Murray Assumes Role of CEO
WASHINGTON – Monument Advocacy – a bipartisan and bi-coastal government relations and public affairs firm – today announced a new, expanded Senior Leadership Team.
Effective July 1, 2024, CEO and Founder C. Stewart Verdery, Jr. will transition out of the CEO role to focus full-time on business development, long-term strategic planning, and engagement with key clients, and Partner John Murray will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer. The transition is part of a larger development of a new seven-person Senior Leadership Team at Monument headed by Murray and Verdery, which will work in tandem with a deep bench of practice area leads across the Government Relations and Public Affairs teams.
“Founding and building Monument into a top-notch firm that provides excellent service to amazing clients, while also being a fun and meaningful place to build a career, has been the journey of a lifetime,” said Verdery. “After 18 years, it is appropriate to allow a new CEO to bring a fresh vision and new approaches to the firm and our clients. This is not a retirement in the slightest, but a recognition that all leaders need to cultivate an environment where their successors can achieve even more. Luckily, we have an excellent leader on deck.
“John has played at the highest level of the business and political communities on both coasts and earned the trust of the entire team at Monument. His understanding of what it takes to get results in today’s complicated policy environment is unparalleled.”
“I’m excited to start this next chapter and to continue to build on the incredible government relations and public affairs platform we’ve created together spanning Washington, DC, Seattle, and beyond,” Murray said. “Monument has amazing talent, and the best client roster of any firm in our space – and there’s still plenty of runway ahead. Stewart has shown great leadership over the last 18 years – building a unique firm that champions substance and strategy – and I am honored to take the reins and continue his excellent work.”
The Senior Leadership Team consists of:
- C. Stewart Verdery, Jr. – Founder
- John Murray – Chief Executive Officer
- Ashley Hoy – Managing Partner for Government Relations
- Matt McAlvanah – Managing Partner for Public Affairs
- Tim Punke – Managing Partner for West Coast
- Britt Bepler – Chief Operating Officer and Chief People Officer
- Nicole Rodgers Houston – Head of Business Development and Brand Strategy
During Verdery’s tenure as CEO, the firm grew from a solo one-person operation named Monument Policy Group to a rebranded Monument Advocacy with over 50 employees and 130 clients across the country. Monument has been recognized as one of the leading advocacy firms in the country and ranks among the top 25 firms in terms of federal lobbying revenue.
