The looming fight over raising the debt ceiling may provide an opportunity for broader tax negotiations, said Kimberly Ellis, a former aide to retired Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Tex.).
Ellis, a lobbyist with Monument Advocacy, does see room for Republicans to make a potential deal with Democrats, but not soon.
“I don’t think it’s possible until at least, realistically, the third quarter or really December,” Ellis said. “I don’t think what Democrats were trying to get in December is possible in terms of that level, but there could be a deal to be made on that.”
