WASHINGTON – Monument Advocacy today announced that Mark Bednar, former Head of Communications for 55th Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, is joining the firm as a principal. With more than a decade of high-level political and strategic communications experience and strong relationships across Washington – including in the media, current
administration, and Congress – Mark will work across Monument’s government relations and public affairs practice areas.
“I have known Mark for over a decade and know that he will be an invaluable resource for our clients as they continue to engage this new administration and Congress,” said John Murray, Monument CEO. “Mark knows many key decision-makers in the federal government and boasts an incredible resume spanning Capitol Hill, political campaigns, and issue advocacy. As Head of Communications for Speaker McCarthy, Mark led message development, media relations, and strategic communications. Most recently, Mark worked as Vice President of Communications at the American Exploration & Production Council, a trade association of America’s independent oil and natural gas producers. In addition to working in Speaker
McCarthy’s office, Mark also served as Communications Director for then-Congressman – now Secretary of Transportation – Sean Duffy and as Press Secretary for Senator David Perdue.

Most recently, Mark was Vice President of Communications at the American Exploration & Production Council, a leading trade association of America’s independent oil and natural gas producers.
On Capitol Hill, Mark also served as communications director for then-Congressman (now Secretary of Transportation) Sean Duffy from Wisconsin, and as Press Secretary for Senator David Perdue.
Mark earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Arts in public policy from Johns Hopkins University.
